They come with a fire-resistant rating (or fire protection rating) and can be made from a number of different materials including glass sections, gypsum (as an endothermic fill), steel, timber, vermiculite-boards, aluminum and more.

 The materials used and the way in which the door is constructed will determine its fire-resistant rating.Fire doors can not only save property from damage but they can also save lives by stopping the spread of fire to certain sections, allowing people to escape. For business owners in large commercial buildings it is imperative that fire doors are strategically installed throughout as it helps keep their valued employees safe and acts as a form of insurance against property damage. 

They are especially important in strata buildings if a fire breaks out during the night while residents are sleeping as it can drastically reduce the spread of fire and give more time for residents to escape.
